My day started at 8am and I was super excited and full on anticipation to watch BD kick butt! After 7 hours of waiting we reached the Rose Bowl stadium. I cannot believe parking was $15, seriously it was worse than Disneyland's prices. We waited for 45 mins to get through the check in point, the line wrapped around the parking lot, was a long slow line, so was much worse than waiting in line for finding Nemo ride in Disneyland just because by the time we got into the stadium the first core already played and the second core was about to go on the field. It was super hot and the food was really expensive. After climbing so many stairs to row 65 and nearly walking over 49 people just to get to my plastic small seat. The guys in front of us made it difficult to fully see everything, but I did enjoyed what I was able to see and to hear. The first half of the show was ok, but after the intermission the show picked up and I was blown away with Phantom and Carolina Crown' show. I was amazed at the fact that Cavie's had the energy to increase the BPM's in the show, I give those guys props for their energy. However I really felt like SCV, Phantom and BD just blew our ears off our heads, but with amazing musical technique. Although they probably invented FFFFFFF they still did so with great balance of the bass line from the low brass and the inner voices from the Melo Phones. The drumlines were sick from the top 5 cores. I really enjoyed watching the transitions from formation to formation and I just couldn't keep from smiling and getting into the shows of the top 5 cores. I think though my favorite show was Carolina Crowns just because of the slow motion affect and their ability emphasize the grace of marching and then artistry it takes to make a show. The color guard in the brown costumes looked like little horses with their leg kicks, very good imitation of a horse and I really liked their music ahh I can understand why they earned the Disney award. Man, I am so sick of the over voice talking that the Cadet's show had, the whole time I kept saying the talking is killing the show, I wanted to hear the music not more chatter. The RCC guys who sat in front of me were laughing and agreeing with what I was saying though and especially I would say 'SHUT UP' I don't want to hear any more talking. Cadet's had a good show, minus the talking, I think they would have won if they took out the talking in their show. I was celebrating so hard when BD won cause I was going to be so disappointed if the Cadets won. I love the color guards costumes for BD and it fit the darkness of the show and the lighter brighter portions of the show. I really had fun watching the cores march and hear the great music. Good times. For those who have never experienced such an event I think people would be surprised how band geeks aren't that nerdy even though we come together during the year to watch cores play and march, people will see that its really another whole different sport, which mixes artistry, competitiveness, athletic abilities, hard work, dedication and sometimes insanity because the cores will go to great lengths to get a clean show, meaning they will spend endless hours and camp to make a perfect show. Music is so great!
