As I sat in a movie this afternoon I did not expect to end up learn something new. Generally speaking, majority of the time people spend the time, effort and money to watch a movie for sheer entertainment. Some might choose to watch a movie focused on poking fun at celebraties, but in the mist of the jokes there is a bigger message that the writers wanted to portray which was to cause people to really think on a deeper level.
Tonight, as I watched "This is the End I" I found myself laughing at parts I didn't think I would agree with, but laughing conveyed a form of acceptance. Parts I found obscene I did not laugh but just wanted to close my eyes to blink it out of the moment to demonstrate that I did not agree with the scene or message. More so, I just wanted to be in deny the horrific animalistic instincts people commit during desperation. I honestly wanted to laugh and just say this is not real so just do not take anything so personal. I just sat in my seat wondering if others felt the same way, but as I observed the crowd people laughed when I cringed, which demonstrated how sensitive and serious I have become of the past years. If I watched this movie 5 years ago I probably would have gave this movie a 10/10, but after experiencing a few of life's challenges and watching others go through pain and struggles I gave this movie a 6.5 because I was not able to forget the realities of the real world but felt more of a realization that the movie emphasized that people need to really be good to one another and not to treat others like dead animals. The movie also focused on the message that people who live in the city should not be so caught up with the popular trends, but to realize that there is more to life than reputation and money.
Overall, the movie did achieve its entertainment factor, but disappointed in distracting me from thinking about real world realities and concerns, instead the movie made me want to further analyze the "why" factor in life.
